About Me & BW

001

I’m Lori, mother of six kids by way of birth and international adoption.  I’m also CEO and Partner in an emergency medicine group where I work with some of the most talented and compassionate ER doctors and nurses you can imagine. Together with my clinical colleagues we formed “The White Coat Brigade”, a global social responsibility effort delivering health care to under-served patient populations both abroad and in the US.  I’m also on the board and/or actively involved with several amazing non profits focused on humanitarian aid/programming for orphaned children and impoverished people in the developing world.

In addition to all of that I love to travel…the more off the beaten path the better.

Bearing Witness chronicles my adventures in travel…one that often take me on a tour of the developing world.  I’ve visited orphanages Kazakhstan, remote villages in El Salvador, Haiti and  Guatemala, a leper colony in Ethiopia, a children’s palliative care center in China and a home for HIV positive kids in India.  I have never been to Paris.

Frustratingly, while I have a passion to serve orphans and some resources to provide medical services to the poor most often there is little I can do to make a substantial and sustainable improvement in the lives of the amazing people I meet. I can however bear witness to their story. My goal here is simply to “Pay attention. Be astonished.” and “Tell about it.”

So with inspirational credit to (my personal poet laureate) Mary Oliver and Collective Soul….here we go.

~Mary Oliver

Instructions for living a life. Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.”

and

“When it’s over, I want to say: all my life
I was a bride married to amazement.
I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.

When it is over, I don’t want to wonder
if I have made of my life something particular, and real.
I don’t want to find myself sighing and frightened,
or full of argument.

I don’t want to end up simply having visited this world.”

Hope that’s my company

Yeah stars have only so many wishes though

They can’t tell what we already know

See I’m just gathering all my eyes can see through

I’m bearing witness to you
